It is the purpose of this chapter to provide knowledge to the town as to the construction, conversion, abandonment or destruction of water wells, groundwater monitoring wells, groundwater contamination recovery wells, and cathodic protection wells and the use of groundwater, and to provide minimum regulation of those subjects for the protection of the health, safety and general welfare of the town and its inhabitants. The knowledge acquired will be useful to develop and interpret a data base that will be supportive of a groundwater management policy. (Ord. 465 § 1 (part), 1991; Ord. 355 § 1, 1977)
