Every pool constructed after the effective date of the ordinance codified in this section having a depth in excess of twenty-four inches of water shall comply with the following requirements:

A. The pool shall be completely surrounded by a fence or wall six feet in height.

B. No openings, holes or gaps larger than four inches in any dimension shall exist except for doors and gates, provided that picket fences may be utilized with a horizontal opening dimension of not more than four inches.

C. A building or structure may be used as part of the fence enclosure.

D. A hedge shall not be considered a fence or wall for the purposes of this section.

E. All gates or doors opening through the fence or wall enclosure shall be equipped with a self-closing and self-latching device for keeping the gate or door closed securely at all times when not in actual use; provided, however, that the door of any dwelling which forms a part of the enclosure need not be so equipped.

F. The building official may approve modifications of the requirements set forth in this section, provided that the protection accomplished by the modifications shall be substantially equal to that required in the standards. (Ord. 410 § 1, 1985)
